Recently, Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division troopers, Motor Carrier Inspectors, and MCSAP qualified troopers participated in an enforcement project with our surrounding state commercial vehicle divisions.

Property tax is something every home owner and business owner must face each year. However, in 2005, Indiana recalculated the way property tax was assessed and this resulted in a 250% increase on some long-time home owner’s tax. Many of which, were seniors who had lived in the same home for decades.
Mayor Thomas McDermott, Jr of Hammond was a brand-new mayor when this occurred, and many looked to him to solve it.
“It was one of the first crises I had to deal with as mayor,” he said. “People were literally being taxed out of their homes. We saw seniors losing their homes that they had been in for decades. It seemed particularly cruel to me for seniors living in a home their whole lives to lose their homes due to this reassessment.”

This morning at approximately 7:00 a.m., the Lowell Regional Dispatch Center began receiving 911 reports of a reckless driver north bound on I-65 in Jasper County. The vehicle was described as a black 2016 Chevrolet Cruze.

Hammond Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. announced today that the City of Hammond has committed to providing a one-time amount of $50,000 to assist the Gary Public Transportation Corporation (GPTC). The Town of Merrillville had already agreed to donate a similar amount. The Lake County Government has proudly donated $150,000 towards GPTC. The monies from the City of Hammond, coupled with the donations from the Town of Merrillville and the Lake County Government will greatly assist the GPTC with their current financial crisis.
