Brauer Museum of Art at Valpo Announces Winter Exhibitions Opening Reception

The Brauer Museum of Art’s winter exhibitions kick off with an opening reception Sunday, Jan. 14, and run through April 1.
In the Wehling and McGill Galleries, German artists and educators Henning Eichinger and Yvonne Kendall present an installation that involves both paintings and sculptural creations. The exhibition not only highlights the artists’ unique visions but also celebrates 50 years of collaboration between Valparaiso University and Reutlingen University. The artists will give a gallery talk in the museum at 7 p.m. on Feb. 14.
“The Wonderful World of Puppetry: Marionettes by Ralph Kipniss” features marionettes by Michigan City artist, visionary and veteran puppeteer Ralph Kipniss in Gallery 1212, highlighting both his inventiveness and technical skill. On Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Duesenberg Recital Hall, Kipness will present a puppet show that is sure to delight viewers of all ages.
Finally, in the Education Room, “The World’s Foremost Wood Engraver: Thomas Bewick Prints from the Collection of Tom Brand” showcases selections from artist and collector Tom Brand’s vast collection of wood engravings by the famed printmaker Thomas Bewick.
On Jan. 18, the film/lecture series, “The Noir Style in Image, Word and Sound” returns to offer film screenings and discussions that will explore the classic film genre. Four iconic movies will be featured by Indiana University Northwest Performing Arts faculty member and creator of the lecture series, Peter Aglinskas. All events are free and open to the public, with showings running January – April.
The Valparaiso University Art Student Exhibition and Art Faculty Exhibition return in April, featuring original artwork by Valpo students and faculty. The summer exhibitions include new acquisitions and selections from the permanent collection.
Throughout the season, the Brauer Museum hosts coffee hours and gallery talks with artists, curators and art collectors. Admission to the museum and its events is free, with donations welcome.
